Astacoidea issuperfamily of freshwatercrayfish that live in theNorthern Hemisphere. The other superfamily of crayfish,Parastacoidea, lives in theSouthern Hemisphere. Astacoidea consists of threefamilies:Astacidae (from Europe and western North America),Cambaridae (from eastern North America), andCambaroididae (from eastern Asia). Crayfish are closely related tolobsters, as shown in the simplifiedcladogram below.[1][2][3]
