Askio (Greek:Άσκιο; Pronunciation:As•ki•o) is amountain range in the northwestern part of theKozani and the eastern part of theKastoriaregional units in northernGreece. The elevation of its highest peak, Siniatsiko, is 2,111 m (6,926 ft).[1] There are forests in the northern part. It stretches from the villageKleisoura in the northwest toXirolimni in the southeast, over a length of about 30 km (19 mi). The nearest mountains are theVerno to the northwest, theVourinos to the south and theVermio to the northeast. It is drained by tributaries of theAliakmonas to the west and south, and towards theLake Vegoritida to the northeast.[2][3][4]
The nearest towns areSiatista to the south,Ptolemaida to the northeast andKozani to the southeast. Mountain villages in the Askio mountains includeVlasti in the central part,Eratyra andSkiti in the south andMilochori,Anarrachi,Variko and Kleisoura in the north. TheA2 Egnatia Odos motorway (Igoumenitsa -Ioannina - Kozani -Thessaloniki) runs south of the mountains.[2]
