Ashley Daniel Tabor-KingCBE (né Tabor; born May 1977) is a British businessman who is the founder and executive president ofGlobal Media & Entertainment, the largest commercial radio group in Europe and one of the leadingoutdoor (OOH) advertising companies in the UK.
Ashley Daniel Tabor-King was born to aJewish family[1] in May 1977,[2] the son of Doreen andMichael Tabor, who made his fortune throughbookmaking, horse breeding and property.[3]
Tabor-King presented and ran a hospital radio station inWatford while still at school. He left school at 16,[4] and his first job in commercial radio was as an overnight tech op at the then Chiltern Radio inDunstable.[5]
He later worked as an assistant to Richard Park at Capital Radio in London, helping him to produce shows and plan playlists.[4]
Tabor-King once worked forSimon Cowell,[6] and is credited as being one of the co-writers ofThe X Factor's theme song.[7]
In 2008, with cash provided by his father and other lenders, he took overGCap Radio, the group behind Capital Radio and Classic FM, and foundedGlobal.[6]
In 2016, Global launched a new school,Global Academy, to prepare young people aged 14-18 for a career in broadcast and digital media, to help reduce the barriers to entry for young people entering the media industry. On 20 April 2017, the Academy was officially opened by theDuke of Cambridge andPrince Harry in their capacity as patrons of "Heads Together", a mental health charity. Two breakfast shows from Global radio stations were broadcasting live from the Academy:Heart London Breakfast withJamie Theakston, andEmma Bunton andNick Ferrari onLBC.[8]
Tabor-King was appointedOfficer of the Order of the British Empire in the2017 Birthday Honours[9][10] andCommander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the2024 New Year Honours for services to media and entertainment.[11][12]
Tabor-King is married to George Tabor-King.[13] Tabor-King has lived inThe Knightsbridge Apartments complex since 2006, in an apartment he bought for £15 million.[14] In 2017 he bought the next-door apartment for £90 million.[14] Tabor-King also owns a mansion inLos Angeles. The site was purchased from Megan Ellison, daughter ofLarry Ellison, for $26.25 million. Tabor-King also owns a $21 million apartment inBarbados.
Ashley Tabor, the Jewish founder and executive president of LBC's parent company Global, received 155 replies from Twitter users calling on him to fire Ms Hopkins after he posted a message of support for the victims of Monday's atrocity
