19°42′20″S163°39′27″E / 19.70556°S 163.65750°E /-19.70556; 163.65750Art Island (Île d'Art) is the largest of theBelep Islands archipelago inNew Caledonia. It has an area of 53 square kilometres (20 sq mi). Its chief settlement isWaala, which is also the capital ofBelep commune.
In August 2016, a large bushfire ravaged Art Island.[1]
