Arkhangai Province (Mongolian:Архангай аймаг) is one of the 21provinces of Mongolia, located slightly west of the country's center, on the northern slopes of theKhangai Mountains. It is composed of 19districts.

History

The province was founded in 1931.[4]

Arkhangai province has 19sums and 101bags.[5]The aimag capitalTsetserleg is geographically located in theErdenebulgan sum in the south of the aimag. It is not to be confused with theTsetserleg sum in the north.

Climate

In winter, the mean temperature is −30 to −38 °C (−22 to −36 °F), and in summer, the highest temperature is between 25 and 36 °C (77 and 97 °F).

Geology

The province has a total forest area of 10,086 km2, which represents 18.6% of the province's area.[8]

Economy

The main field of economy in the aimag is agriculture, predominantly animal husbandry. According to 2004 data, the aimag was home to 1,948,000 domestic animals: goats, sheep, cattle (incl. yaks andkhainags), horses and camels. Camels are almost exclusively herded in the southeastern sums.[9]

In 2018, the province contributed to 1.34% of the total national GDP of Mongolia.[10]
