Arisba orArisbe (Ancient Greek:Ἀρίσβη; Eth. Ἀρισβαίος), was a town ofMysia. Its site is tentatively located atMusakoy inAsiatic Turkey.[1][2]
At the end of the Late Bronze Age, in connection with the Trojan War, it was mentioned byHomer in the same line withSestos andAbydus.[3]
It was betweenPercote and Abydus,[4] a colony ofMytilene, founded byScamandrius andAscanius, son ofAeneas. It was a member of theDelian League.[5]
The army ofAlexander the Great mustered here after crossing theHellespont.[6] When the wanderingGauls passed over into Asia, on the invitation ofAttalus I, they occupied Arisba, but were soon defeated, in 216 BCE, byPrusias I of Bithynia.[7] InStrabo's time, the place was almost forgotten.
There are coins of Arisbe from the Roman emperorTrajan's time (early 2nd century), and also autonomous coins.
