Arimidelphis is an extinct genus oftoothed whale from thePiacenzian andGelasian ages of the latePliocene and earlyPleistocene,[2] containing only the speciesA. sorbinii.[1] It was described by Giovanni Bianucci in 2005.[3]
This genus was named afterAriminus, the Latin name of theMarecchia river.[3]
WhenArimidelphis was first described in 2005, it was placed in the subfamilyOrcininae. Later, in 2014, it was moved to the familyDelphinidae.[1][4]
Fossils of this species were found in northernItaly.[3]
