
Ariarathes II (Ancient Greek:Ἀριαράθης, Ariaráthēs; ruled 301–280 BC),satrap andking of Cappadocia, son of Holophernes, fled intoArmenia after the death of his uncle and adopted fatherAriarathes I, ruler ofCappadocia. After the death ofEumenes he recovered Cappadocia with the assistance ofArdoates, the Armenian king, and killedAmyntas, theMacedoniansatrap, in 301 BC, but was forced to acceptSeleucid suzerainty. He was succeeded byAriaramnes, the eldest of his three sons.[1]
