Argus is aprogramming language created atMIT byBarbara Liskov between 1982 and 1988, in collaboration withMaurice Herlihy, Paul Johnson,Robert Scheifler, andWilliam Weihl.[1] It is an extension of theCLU language, and utilizes most of the samesyntax andsemantics.[1] Argus was designed to support the creation ofdistributed programs, byencapsulating related procedures withinobjects calledguardians, and by supportingatomic operations calledactions.[1][2]
