Anatomical terms of neuroanatomy

In themedulla oblongata, thearcuate nucleus is a group ofneurons located on the anterior surface of themedullary pyramids. These nuclei are the extension of thepontine nuclei.[1]

They receive afferents from thecorticospinal tract.[citation needed]

They in turn project efferents into thecerebellum through theinferior cerebellar peduncle as:[1]

Function

[edit]

Arcuate nuclei are capable ofchemosensitivity and have a proven role in therespiratory center controlling thebreathing rate.[2]
