Arctic Circle Restaurants is an American chain ofburger andshakerestaurants based inMidvale,Utah, United States.
As of September 2022[update] there were 71 restaurants in seven states, about half are company-owned and the rest are owned by franchisees and about half of the restaurants are in Utah. They serve typicalfast food such asburgers,sandwiches,shakes,salads,fries andfish and chips.[citation needed]
The company claims to have invented the regionalcondimentfry sauce,[2] and that it was the first burger chain to invent and sell thekids' meal.[3]
In 1924, Don Carlos Edwards established a small refreshment stand at aPioneer Day celebration. By 1941 it had grown into a thriving BBQ restaurant.[4] Edwards subsequently opened the first Arctic Circle restaurant inSalt Lake City, Utah, in 1950. Shortly after opening Arctic Circle, Edwards introduced “pink sauce,”,[5][6] athousand island dressing-like combination of mayonnaise and ketchup. This later became known as “fry sauce.”[7]
