Arantxa Urretabizkaia Bejarano (born 1 July 1947) is a contemporary Basque writer, screenwriter and actress.[1] She was born inDonostia-San Sebastián,Guipúzcoa,País Vasco.[2]
As a student at theUniversity of Barcelona,[3] Urretabizkaia wrote the screenplays of:[4]
In 1981 she also acted inLa Fuga de Segovia film (English title:Escape from Segovia).[5]
The Basque theatre companyAgerre Teatroa adapted her novel «Zergatik Panpox?» and performed inMadrid the resulting monologue, an interpretation by Maite Agirre of the feminine condition andfin de siècle solitude.
In 1988, theBasque Government's Department of Culture and Tourism created thePremio de Merecimiento de las Letras Vascas and appointed Urretabizkaia a member to represent Basque cultural interests.
Some of her works have also been translated toGerman.[6]
