The river had serious flooding in 1922.[ 1] The river catchment and the Douglas River were visited by wilderness photographers in the 1980s.[ 2]
The river has been a feature of theDouglas-Apsley National Park [ 3] [ 4] [ 5]
The river gave its name to the formerelectoral division of Apsley .
