Appendicula, commonly known asstream orchids, is agenus offlowering plants in thefamilyOrchidaceae. Orchids in this genus areepiphytic,lithophytic or rarelyterrestrial plantsherbs with many flat, often twisted leaves and smallresupinate, white or greenish flowers. Thesepals are free from each other but thelateral sepals andlabellum are fused to the base of thecolumn.[2][3][4]
The genusAppendicula was first formally described in 1825 byCarl Ludwig Blume who published the description inBijdragen tot de flora van Nederlandsch Indië.[5] The nameAppendicula is the diminutive form of theLatin wordappendix meaning "appendage" or "addition", hence "little appendage",[6] referring to the "inward-facing appendages on the labellum".[4]
