Apliu Street (simplified Chinese:鸭寮街;traditional Chinese:鴨寮街) is a street in theSham Shui Po area ofKowloon,Hong Kong.

Location

Apliu Street runs parallel toCheung Sha Wan Road betweenYen Chow Street andNam Cheong Street. An easy way to reach it is to get off at theMTRSham Shui Po station. Use the A2 or C2 exit and you will be ascending directly into Apliu Street.

Name

The Cantonese name "apliu" (鴨寮) comes from a village which was formerly located nearby but has long since been buried underneath theurbanization of Sham Shui Po.[1]

Retail

Apliu Street is home to a bustling street market sellingelectronics,electrical components, and related items.[2] A shopper can find both new and used merchandise in the area. Apliu Street is well known forgeek shopping, and at one time it had an unsavoury reputation as a "thieves' market".[3]

While Apliu Street is famous for electronic parts, theGolden Shopping Arcade on the opposite side ofCheung Sha Wan Road is famous forcomputer hardware, video games, and related items.[4]
