Aphra Kendal Alice Brandreth (born 18 July 1978) is a BritishConservative Party politician who has served as theMember of Parliament (MP) forChester South and Eddisbury since the2024 general election.[1]
Brandreth was born inMiddlesex Hospital on 18 July 1978.[2] Her father is the broadcasterGyles Brandreth, who was Conservative MP forCity of Chester from 1992 to 1997.[3]
She attendedGodolphin and Latymer School[4] and studied economics atUniversity College London. From 2003 to 2013 she was an economic adviser toDefra.[5]
Brandreth was elected as a Conservative councillor forBarnes ward of theRichmond Council in 2018 and became the deputy leader of the Conservative group. She lost her seat in 2022 to the Liberal Democrats.[5]
Brandreth was the Conservative candidate forKingston and Surbiton at the2019 general election, coming second toEd Davey of the Liberal Democrats.[6]
She was elected to the seat of Chester South and Eddisbury in the 2024 general election.[7] She made hermaiden speech on 24 July.[8]
Brandreth is married to Ian Stroud; they have three children.[5]
