Apesh was an Ancient Egyptian god of the night who had the head of aturtle ortortoise. He was considered to be an evil god because turtles were considered to be an evil animal and Apesh represented them.[2] In theBook of the Dead the turtle and by extension Apesh is depicted as an "enemy ofRa"; in chapter 161 of theBook of the Dead,Thoth is quoted repeating "MayRa live and turtle die".[1]
