Anu Emmanuel (pronounced[anuɪˈmænjəwəl]ⓘ; born 28 March 1997) is an American actress of Indian descent who primarily works inTelugu films along withTamil andMalayalam films. Emmanuel is a recipient of aProducers Guild Film Award.
After working as a child artist inSwapna Sanchari (2011), Emmanuel made her film debut with Malayalam filmAction Hero Biju (2016).[1] Emmanuel made her Telugu film debut withMajnu (2016), for which she receivedSIIMA Award for Best Female Debut – Telugu nomination. She made her Tamil film debut withThupparivaalan (2017), and starred in the commercially successfulNamma Veetu Pillai (2019).
Anu Emmanuel was born in the United States on 28 March 1997 and raised inGarland, Texas nearDallas.To Malayali parents from Kottayam, Kerala[2][3][4] She graduated fromLakeview Centennial High School in Garland in 2015.[5][6] She pursued a degree in psychology but left after a year, moving to India to pursue an acting career.[7]
Emmanuel made her acting debut as child artist inJayaram starrerSwapna Sanchari and then went on to do the lead role inNivin Pauly starrerAction Hero Biju, directed byAbrid Shine and both films produced by her father.[8][9] She made her Telugu debut withMajnu opposite toNani. The film went on become a hit at box-office. During that time she was announced as the female lead inOxygen, alongside actorGopichand in the lead.[10] In 2017, She made her Tamil debut withThupparivaalan alongsideVishal. In 2018, she was paired opposite toPawan Kalyan andAllu Arjun inAgnyaathavaasi andNaa Peru Surya respectively. She played the lead role inShailaja Reddy Alludu along withNaga Chaitanya andRamya Krishna. She made a cameo appearance inGeetha Govindam. She appeared in her second Tamil filmNamma Veetu Pillai opposite toSivakarthikeyan which became successful at the box-office.[11]
In 2021, she starred inAlludu Adhurs along withBellamkonda Sreenivas andMaha Samudram withSharwanand.[12][13] In 2022, Anu played the lead role inUrvasivo Rakshasivo oppositeAllu Sirish.[14] She appeared inRavanasura oppositeRavi Teja.[15] She returned to Tamil cinema in 2023 playing the female lead inJapan oppositeKarthi.[16]
