Anthropomancy (fromGreekanthropos (ἄνθρωπος, man) andmanteia (μαντεία, divination)) is a method ofdivination by theentrails of dead or dying men or women through sacrifice. This practice was sometimes also calledsplanchnomancy. In ancientEtruria andRome, the usual variety of divination from entrails was haruspicy (performed by aharuspex), in which the sacrifice was an animal.
