Anthony Abadies Pinthus[2] (born 4 April 1998) is a professionalfootballer who plays as agoalkeeper for1. Liga Classic clubFC Tuggen. Born in Switzerland, he represents thePhilippines at international level.

Club career

Born and raised in Switzerland, he began his football career atGrasshopper Club Zürich, where he played for the club's youth teams.[3] He was loaned out to1. Liga clubs United Zürich andWohlen before ending his contract with Grasshoppers.[4][5]

In early 2020, Pinthus joined theAzkals Development Team (ADT) of thePhilippines Football League (PFL) and was eventually loaned out in August to fellow PFL clubUnited City.[6][7] He made his PFL debut on 28 October, keeping a clean sheet for United City as they defeated his parent club ADT, 1–0.[8] He was awarded the PFL Golden Glove for keeping three clean sheets and conceding only one goal in the whole 2020 season.[9][10][11]

On 16 January 2021, United City announced that they had signed in Pinthus on a permanent basis owing to his performance while on loan with the club.[12]

International career

Pinthus is eligible to play for thePhilippines,Switzerland, and theRepublic of Ireland.

Pinthus played as the starting goalkeeper of thePhilippine U-23 that competed in theSoutheast Asian Games held in the Philippines.[13]

He made his debut for the Philippines in a 4–1 friendly win againstTimor Leste inBali,Indonesia.[14][15]

Personal life

Pinthus was born inSolothurn, Switzerland to a Filipina mother who hails fromCagayan de Oro, and a Swiss father who is half Swiss and half Irish.[16][17] He started playing football at a young age, taught by his father. Growing up, his football idol wasReal Madrid andSpain goalkeeperIker Casillas.[17]
