Annette Markert (born in Kaltensundheim,Thuringia) is a German classicalmezzo-soprano and contralalto.
Annette Markert studied voice at theLeipzig School of Music and was engaged at theHalle Opera House inHalle, Saxony-Anhalt from 1983 to 1990, when she moved to theLeipzig Opera.[1][2]
Since 1996 she has worked as a free-lance artist in concert and opera. She appeared with theNew York Philharmonic conducted byKurt Masur, theVienna Philharmonic withPhilippe Herreweghe, and theInternationale Bachakademie Stuttgart withHelmuth Rilling, among others. She sang Bach'sMass in B minor in London, conducted by SirRoger Norrington, in memory of the 250th anniversary of the composer's death.[1] She has performed annually with theThomanerchor and theDresdner Kreuzchor and took part in the project ofTon Koopman to record the complete vocal works of Bach with theAmsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir.[1] In 2004, she appeared at theRheingau Musik Festival in a recorded performance of Handel'sMessiah.[3]
On the opera stage, she has interpreted the title roles of such Handel operas asFloridante,Rinaldo,Oreste, andGiulio Cesare.[1]
In 2008, she recorded in theFrauenkirche Dresden theChristmas Oratorio ofGottfried August Homilius and Christian August Jacobi'sDer Himmel steht uns wieder offen, withChristiane Kohl,Marcus Ullmann, Tobias Berndt, Sächsisches Vocalensemble andVirtuosi Saxoniae, conducted byLudwig Güttler.[4]
