Anne Dorval (French pronunciation:[andɔʁval]; born November 8, 1960) is aFrench Canadian television, stage, and film actress. She is known for her work withXavier Dolan that includes appearing in five of his films,I Killed My Mother (2009),Heartbeats (2010),Laurence Anyways (2012),Mommy (2014) andMatthias & Maxime (2019). She has won fiveGémeaux Awards for her work on television.

Early life

Dorval was born inNoranda, Quebec, the daughter of Madeleine (Larouche) and Gaetan Dorval.[1] She received her education atCégep de Trois-Rivières and the Drama Conservatory of Montreal, beginning her career on the stage in 1984.

She is known in Canada for her appearance in theQuebec television seriesLe Coeur a ses raisons andLes Parent. She has also appeared in other Quebec series, such asChambres en ville,Virginie,Paparazzi andRumeurs, and in the filmsMontréal vu par... andI Killed My Mother (J'ai tué ma mère). She is also known as a premiereFrench Canadianvoice actress for English films.

In 2010, at thePalm Springs International Film Festival, she won theFIPRESCI Award for Best Actress for her performance inI Killed My Mother (J'ai tué ma mère) directed byXavier Dolan.[2]

In 2024 she was announced as one of the judges onQuel talent!, the forthcoming Quebec version of the internationalGot Talent franchise.[3]

Personal life

She was formerly married to actor Marc-André Coallier, with whom she had two children.
