American poet, author, and translator
Anna Elizabeth Moschovakis is a Greek American poet, author, and translator.
Moschovakis was born to an American mother and a Greek father.[ 1] She split her time growing up between the U.S. and Greece, where her father owned what she described as "a small apartment in a port-side suburb on the outskirts ofAthens ".[ 1] She has one brother.[ 1] She received aBA in philosophy from theUniversity of California at Berkeley , anMFA from theMilton Avery Graduate School of the Arts atBard College , and anMA in comparative literature (French and American) from theCUNY Graduate Center .[ 2] [ 3]
Moschovakis is a founding member of Bushel Collective and the publishing collectiveUgly Duckling Presse .[ 4] She is a faculty member ofBard College 'sMilton Avery Graduate School of the Arts , as well as an adjunct associate professor in the Writing MFA program atPratt Institute .[ 2] Her writing has appeared inThe Paris Review ,The Believer andThe Iowa Review .[ 5] [ 6] [ 7]
Moschovakis' book of poetry,You and Three Others Are Approaching a Lake , won theJames Laughlin Award in 2011.[ 8] Her first novel,Eleanor, or, The Rejection of the Progress of Love , was published in 2018 and was called "remarkable" by theLos Angeles Review of Books .[ 9]
Moschovakis translatedDavid Diop 's 2018 novelAt Night All Blood Is Black from French into English.[ 10] [ 11] The author and Moschovakis were awarded the 2021International Booker Prize .[ 12]
