Angry Birds 2 (formerly known asAngry Birds: Under Pigstruction during itssoft launch[2]) is a 2015puzzle video game developed byRovio Entertainment. It is the twelfth game in theAngry Birds series, and is the direct sequel to the originalAngry Birds game. It is afree-to-play withoptional purchases for in-game currency. It wassoft-launched in Canada on March 5, 2015, asAngry Birds Under Pigstruction,[3] released foriOS andAndroid worldwide on July 30, 2015, and the name was changed toAngry Birds 2.[4]Angry Birds 2 became available on classicHarmonyOS AOSP base on June 29, 2021 as HMS Android apk app.[5]
Reception forAngry Birds 2 was mixed. While praise was given for the game's enhanced graphics and gameplay, criticism was given to the implemented energy system that detracts playability compared to previous games.[6][7]

Like theoriginal game,Angry Birds 2 follows a similar premise of the birds on an overarching mission to save their eggs after being stolen by the green pigs. Players use aslingshot to launch the birds at nearby structures sheltering the pigs, with the objective of popping all the pigs in thelevel. Levels inAngry Birds 2 areprocedurally generated with preset structures, and are divided in stages, each having independent stage layouts to progress through.[2]
The key difference inAngry Birds 2 is the ability to select birds of the desired choice in the form of cards in adeck. Up to three cards are available for selecting a bird at a time. Spell cards, extra consumables that aid in the destruction of level, can also be added to the deck before playing a level. Instead of having a limited set of preset birds, players have a limited set of birds and selected spell cards in their deck. A "Destruct-o-Meter" fills up during play as the player destroys objects, which adds a random bird or spell card to the deck when it is full.
The birds are reworked to match the larger scale of the levels, with Red gaining an ability to topple objects with his scream. Silver, a newly-introduced bird, loops in the air before charging downwards. More birds were later added to the game as "Extra Birds"; Stella, Hal and Bubbles make a return alongside Leonard and Melody, two new additions. Leonard, the main antagonist fromThe Angry Birds Movie (2016), is a pig that shoots three snot balls that make objects slippery, and also exploding himself in snot when taking a hit, and Melody, who can swallow objects and spit them out at a targeted point.
Players gain points by destroying objects and pigs; the points will then be multiplied by the selected bird's score multiplier.[b] Each bird's Bird Power is affected by the levels of the bird, slingshot, the hatchling, and the highest rarity hat owned for the bird. Each of these aspects can be upgraded using their dedicated resources, or by collection of hats, the game's main cosmetics for the playable birds.
Some pigs can defend themselves from birds in various ways, such as knocking them back with projectiles or moving away from danger. These retaliatory tactics, though sometimes effective, can end up backfiring at times. In boss levels, spells are disabled, and the player must defeat the boss pig at the final wave to clear the level. Boss pigs have much larger size and health than regular pigs, but are still prone to instant death by falling off-screen.
Unlike the previousAngry Birds games, this game uses alives system for the main campaign mode. The player loses one life shortly after a loss; once all lives have been lost, the player must wait for those to recharge, or refill them instantly with in-game currency or by watching advertisements.[2]
The game modes include daily and event challenges,PvP modes and Guild systems to diversify gameplay and provide several ways to acquire in-game currency and resources. "Tower of Fortune", a luck-based game mode, also provides a lucrative way of acquiring various rewards quickly that increase in value with each round, but with the risk of losing it all, should the player draw the wrong card.
Angry Birds 2 would occasionally provide free use to a variation of "Golden Duck" spell in campaign mode for promotional use for other games or sponsored brands. During the release ofThe Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019), the boss pigs' appearance was swapped with Zeta, the film's mainantagonist.[citation needed]

The game has received mixed reviews.Pocket Gamer gave the game a 7/10, feeling that the gameplay was a step forward in puzzle design and the graphics were gorgeous; however, it did not like the energy system that, after failing to complete a few levels, either makes the player stop playing or use gems to continue playing; overall the website thought the game was Rovio at its best.[6]IGN awarded it a score of 6.7 out of 10, saying "Ever-shifting levels and limited lives take a lot of the fun out of smashing pigs with birds inAngry Birds 2."[7]
Three days after its release,Angry Birds 2 was downloaded over 10 million times; it is a free game on all platforms.[11] One week after its release,Angry Birds 2 was downloaded over 20 million times.[12] On August 6, 2015, the game was the number one downloaded iOS game in 100 countries and the most downloaded game on Android.[13]
Silver, a bird who first appeared in this game, went on to appear inThe Angry Birds Movie 2, voiced byRachel Bloom. In the film, she is Chuck's sister, a skilled engineer, and a love interest for Red.[14]
