Angry Birds 2 is astrategy video game.[2] It continues the gameplay of its predecessors; pigs have stolen the Angry Birds' eggs, which must be recovered by launching birds fromslingshots at structures containing the pigs.[3][4] The player progresses by defeating every pig in each level.[4] New features are included in addition to this.[5]Levels consist of multiple stages and are randomly-generated,[3][4] and players are able to choose which bird they use rather than there being a specific order.[5] Birds are assigned via randomly-selectedplaying cards of the currently-unlocked birds, which can include a new bird named Silver.[6] Cards can be added by filling a "destruction meter" or, if there are any surviving pigs when all cards are gone, by paying within-game currency.[2] In addition to birds, spells can be used, including a rain ofrubber ducks, ablizzard, and achili pepper.[5]Bosses can also be encountered; the player must use the level environment to deplete the boss'health bar. The player is given fivelives to beat levels, which deplete when a level is failed;[2] once all lives have been depleted, they must be regenerated by waiting 30 minutes, watching an advertisement, or paying with in-game currency.[7][8]
An alternate mode, the Arena, is also included. In the Arena, players challenge others from around the world to rank up in aleaderboard and unlock upgrades.[2][8]
