Anextiomarus (Gaulish:Anextlomāros, 'Great Protection') is aCeltic epithet of the sun-godApollo recorded in aRomano-British inscription fromSouth Shields, England. A variant form,Anextlomarus, appears as a divine style or name attested in a fragmentaryGallo-Roman dedication fromLe Mans, France. Anextlomarus is also attested as aGaulish man's father's name atLangres, and a feminine divine form,Anextlomara, appears in two other Gallo-Roman dedications fromAvenches,Switzerland.
The GaulishtheonymAnextlomāros means 'Great Protection', that is to say 'he who is in Great Protection'. It stems from the nounanextlo- ('protection'; cf. Old Irishanacul) attached tomāros ('great').[1][2][3]
