Andrew M. Zimmer (October 9, 1919 – December 20, 2005) was an Americanbasketball player. He was anNCAA All-American atIndiana University and played on the school's first championship team in 1940.
Zimmer, a 6'5"center from Goodland High School inGoodland, Indiana, played for coachBranch McCracken atIndiana from 1939 to 1942. Zimmer came to the Hoosiers as awalk-on, but improved to the point where he was named a third team All-American byConverse in1942.[1]
Following his college career, Zimmer served in theUnited States Marine Corps between 1942 and 1969. He retired as acolonel, having received thePurple Heart andBronze Star while serving inWorld War II and theKorean War.[2]
Andy Zimmer was inducted into theIndiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. He died on December 20, 2005, and was buried inArlington National Cemetery with full military honors.[3]
