Andy Haines (born April 2, 1977) is an Americanprofessional baseballcoach andmanager. He has previously served on the coaching staffs of theChicago Cubs,Milwaukee Brewers andPittsburgh Pirates ofMajor League Baseball (MLB).

Career

Haines attendedEastern Illinois University, and playedcollege baseball for theEastern Illinois Panthers as acatcher.[1] After graduating from Eastern Illinois, he served as an assistant for the baseball team atOlney Central College. He joined theMiddle Tennessee State University (MTSU) baseball team as a graduate assistant in 2002. He spent three years at Middle Tennessee, earning amaster's degree.[2]

Haines spent two years as the manager of the summer-collegiateWaterloo Bucks in 2003 and 2004, and served as a hitting coach with the independent-leagueGary SouthShore RailCats of theNorthern League in 2005 and 2006. He debuted as a manager for theWindy City ThunderBolts of the independentFrontier League in 2007. He became a hitting coach in theMiami Marlins' organization in 2008, working for theGulf Coast Marlins of theRookie-levelGulf Coast League. The next year, he managed theJamestown Jammers of theLow–ANew York-Penn League. Haines managed theGreensboro Grasshoppers of theSingle–ASouth Atlantic League in 2010 and 2011, leading the team to the league's championship in 2011. The next two seasons, he managed theJupiter Hammerheads of theHigh–AFlorida State League. He managed theNew Orleans Zephyrs of theTriple–APacific Coast League in 2014 and 2015.[3]

In 2016, theChicago Cubs hired Haines as their minor league hitting instructor.[4] After the 2017 season, the Cubs promoted him to their major league staff as their assistant hitting coach.[5]

Haines left the Cubs to become hitting coach for theMilwaukee Brewers in November 2018.[6] The Brewers fired Haines after the 2021 season,[7] and he was hired as the hitting coach for thePittsburgh Pirates.[8][9] The Pirates fired Haines after the 2024 season.[10]

Personal life

Haines is fromLouisville, Illinois.[11] He met his wife, Erin, while at MTSU. They have three children.[2] His younger brother, Kyle,[11] is the director of player development for the San Francisco Giants.[12][13]
