Andrew Holland (born 1979) is the founder and CEO of theFusion Industry Association (FIA), an organization which provides strategic direction for energy policy and advocates for fusion energy.[1] Holland's work focuses on the interconnected issues of national security,[2] energy,climate change,[3] and the environment.[4] Through his speaking and writing, Holland has emerged as a leading voice for sustainableenergy security andclimate change mitigation.[5]
Andrew Holland was featured on the programStory in the Public Square, which aired onPBS on February 16, 2025, where he discussed fusion energy and its impact on global energy production.[6] His work has appeared inThe Guardian,[7]The Christian Science Monitor,[8]The Wall Street Journal,[2]The Washington Examiner[5] andThe Washington Post.[9]
Holland got B.S. in History and Economics fromWake Forest University in 2001, and an MSc in International Strategy and Economics from theUniversity of St. Andrews in 2006, both in North Carolina.[1]
Throughout his career Holland has been a prominent advocate ofsustainable energy security[8] and mitigatingclimate change.[9][7]
From 2006 through 2008 he worked for U.S. SenatorChuck Hagel as an Energy andEnvironmental policyLegislative assistant.[10][11]
From December 2008 to January 2013 he was a Research Associate at theInternational Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) where he managed the "Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change and Security".[10]
In May 2011 he joined theAmerican Security Project (ASP) which had been founded in 2006 by Chuck Hegel andJohn Kerry.[1] He became COO of ASP in 2015 and held this position until he left in May 2021.[11]
In 2021 he joined theFusion Industry Association (FIA) as its founding CEO and remains there to the present time.[1]
Holland was instrumental in getting theNuclear Regulatory Commission to separate nuclear fission regulations from nuclear fusion ones.[12][13]
