Andrew Hacker (born 1929) is an Americanpolitical scientist and public intellectual.

He is currentlyProfessor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science atQueens Collegein New York. He did his undergraduate work atAmherst College, followed by graduate work atOxford University,University of Michigan, andPrinceton University, where he received hisPhD degree. Hacker taught atCornell before taking his current position at Queens. He is the son ofLouis M. Hacker.^[1]

His recent book,Higher Education? was written in collaboration withClaudia Dreifus, his wife, aNew York Times science writer andColumbia University professor. Professor Hacker is a frequent contributor to theNew York Review of Books. In his articles he has questioned whether mathematics is necessary, claiming "Making mathematics mandatory prevents us from discovering and developing young talent."

His most recent book, "Downfall: The Demise of a President and His Party" starts with the sentences: "There is not even a long-odds chance that Donald Trump will gain a second term.
