Andrew Burnap (born March 5, 1991) is an American actor. Known for his performances on stage, he began his professional stage career in thePublic Theatre's revivals ofKing Lear in 2014 andTroilus and Cressida in 2016. He gained prominence for his role as Toby Darling in theMatthew López playThe Inheritance, which premiered in theWest End and transferred toBroadway,[1] and earned him theTony Award for Best Actor in a Play.[2] In 2023, he portrayedKing Arthur in the Broadway revival of theLerner and Loewe musicalCamelot.

Burnap is also known for his roles on television including as Phil in theApple TV+ seriesWeCrashed (2022), and asJoseph Smith in theFX on Hulu limited seriesUnder the Banner of Heaven (2022).

Early life and education

Burnap was born and raised inSouth Kingstown, Rhode Island, and graduated fromSouth Kingstown High School[3] and theUniversity of Rhode Island.[4] He is the son of Allison and Tim Burnap.[5]

Career

Burnap started his career in productions from thePublic Theatre. In 2014, he was part of the ensemble in the revival ofKing Lear starringJohn Lithgow,Annette Bening andYahya Abdul-Mateen II. In 2016, he starred asTroilus inTroilus and Cressida. He gained prominence for his role as Toby Darling in theMatthew Lopez playThe Inheritance, which premiered in theWest End and transferred toBroadway, for which he won theTony Award for Best Actor in a Play.

In 2022, Burnap starred as Phil in theApple TV+ seriesWeCrashed oppositeAnne Hathaway andJared Leto, and asJoseph Smith in theFX on Hulu limited seriesUnder the Banner of Heaven withAndrew Garfield andDaisy Edgar-Jones. In 2023, he portrayedKing Arthur in the Broadway revival of theLerner and Loewe musicalCamelot. Burnap starred oppositePhillipa Soo asGuinevere in the revival with a new book byAaron Sorkin. For his performance, he was nominated for theDrama Desk Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical.

Later that year, he portrayed Joris Ivens in the off-Broadway playSpain written byJen Silverman, where he acted oppositeMarin Ireland. The play revolves around the complications of filming a movie financed by the Russian government during theSpanish Civil War.[6]

In 2025, he played Jonathan, a character based onPrince Charming, in the live-actionDisney remakeSnow White, where he starred oppositeRachel Zegler andGal Gadot.[7]
