Andrew Katsulas (May 18, 1946 – February 13, 2006), known professionally asAndreas Katsulas,[a] was an American film and television actor, most recognized for portrayals of Narn AmbassadorG'Kar on the American science fiction television seriesBabylon 5 andRomulanCommander Tomalak onStar Trek: The Next Generation.
Born inSt. Louis, Missouri in 1946, to a working-class Greek-American family,[2] Katsulas earned amaster's degree in theatre fromIndiana University Bloomington.[3] He started an acting career that took him from South American barrios toLincoln Center. From 1971 to 1986, he toured withPeter Brook's International Theatre Company, performing improvisational and prepared theater pieces.[4] In 1981 and 1982, he appeared on theCBS daytime drama (soap opera)Guiding Light as Lucien Goff.[4]
Katsulas appeared in various films, includingThe Sicilian,Next of Kin,Someone to Watch Over Me,Sunset,Hot Shots! Part Deux, andExecutive Decision. He played the one-armed villain Fredrick Sykes inThe Fugitive (1993).[5]
Katsulas was a regular on the television seriesBabylon 5 (1994–1998), where he portrayed Ambassador G'Kar.[4] He played theRomulanCommander Tomalak onStar Trek: The Next Generation.[4]
A lifelong smoker,[2] Katsulas died of lung cancer on February 13, 2006, at the age of 59.[3] He was survived by his wife, Gilla Nissan Katsulas, and his two children from a previous marriage, Michael and Katherine.[5]
