Amy Reeder (born August 25, 1980), formerly known asAmy Reeder Hadley, is anAmerican comic book artist and writer known for her work on titles such asFool's Gold,Madame Xanadu,Batwoman, andMoon Girl And Devil Dinosaur.

Early life

Amy Reeder was born August 25, 1980. She is originally fromDenver, Colorado and obtained aBachelor of Science in Social Science Teaching.[1]

Career

Amy Reeder was first discovered through the fourth ofTokyopop'sRising Stars of Manga competitions[2] and later wrote and illustrated theOEL mangaFool's Gold.[3]

Reeder became the lead artist on theMadame Xanadu series fromDC Comics'Vertigo imprint, with writerMatt Wagner.[4] In a 2007 interview, she credited editorBrandon Montclare with helping her get her start in the comics industry.[5] In 2010, DC announced that she would take over alternate art duties for theBatwoman series withJ. H. Williams III,[6] in addition to providing variant covers to that title andSupergirl,[7] the latter of which she began with issue 55.[8] She then left theBatwoman book due to "creative differences" in the middle of the nextstory arc.[9][10] Reeder moved toImage Comics and createdRocket Girl with writer Brandon Montclare.[11] In 2015, she and Montclare began co-writingMoon Girl And Devil Dinosaur forMarvel Comics.[12][13]

Technique and materials

In addition to pencils and an electric eraser, Reeder employs, for her hand-colored work,Copic Multiliners and Copic Markers.[1] Reeder isleft-handed, and when illustrating a cover, she begins the bottom right of the drawing surface and works her way to the top left, in order to avoid smears.[8] She also employs a drawing tablet for her digital work. Computer programs that she uses includeAdobe Photoshop,Corel Painter, and ComicWorks.[1]

Personal life

Reeder enjoys writing music, singing and sewing.[1] She resides in theGreenwich Village neighborhood in Manhattan.[14]
