Amy Manson (born 9 September 1985)[1] is a Scottish actress. She has portrayedAlice Guppy inTorchwood, Abby Evans inCasualty,Lizzie Siddal inDesperate Romantics,Daisy Hannigan-Spiteri inBeing Human,Medea inAtlantis, andMerida in thefifth season of theABC fairy tale drama seriesOnce Upon a Time.[2][3][4]

Background

Born and brought up inAberdeenshire,Scotland,[5] Manson has one sister, Ailsa Manson and one brother, James Manson, born inSeptManson ofClanGunn.[6] She attended Stage Coach, a Saturday drama school, before leaving home for London at the age of seventeen.[6] She trained at theCentral School of Speech and Drama, leaving early to filmPumpkinhead: Blood Feud inRomania.[5] She lives inNorth London.[6]

Career

Manson made her film debut inPumpkinhead: Blood Feud, and has also appeared in thehorror filmBlood Monkey and the short filmSmile Emily.[7]

Manson has lent her voice to the radio dramasLost in Plain Sight,The Summer Walking andThe Dead Hour.[8]

On television, she played Alice Guppy in two episodes ofTorchwood, and appeared as Abby Evans in nine episodes ofCasualty. She has guest-starred in episodes ofDoctors,The Bill andMy Family.

Manson playedLizzie Siddal, muse, wife and lover ofDante Gabriel Rossetti, in theBBC Twoperiod dramaDesperate Romantics.[9] She appeared as the vampire Daisy Hannigan-Spiteri in series two ofBeing Human, alongsideDesperate Romantics co-starAidan Turner.[10][11]

Manson played Ginger Corrigan in the 2010 adaptation ofAgatha Christie's Marple:The Pale Horse,[12] and also played Fleur Morgan inOutcasts,[13] an eight-part series byKudos forBBC One.In 2011, Manson portrayed Leah in the third series ofMisfits and Emma "Whirly" Tyson in the BBC dramaYoung James Herriot.[14]

She also appears in the fifth series of Irish dramaRaw.[15]

In 2024, she appeared asRhona Moncrieffe in the BBC drama,Rebus, an adaptation of theInspector Rebus series byIan Rankin.[16]

Awards

Manson won Best Performance (Female) at the 2008Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland, for playingStepdaughter in theNational Theatre of Scotland production ofSix Characters in Search of an Author.[17]
