TheAlpine A521 is aFormula One car designed by theAlpine F1 Team which competed in the2021 Formula One World Championship. It was driven byFernando Alonso, marking his return to the sport, andEsteban Ocon. It was the first to be fielded under the team's Alpine name.[3][4]
The car was run inFrench blue with a French flag pattern towards the rear. Alpine ran a special livery for theSaudi Arabian Grand Prix to commemorate their 100th race with one of their sponsorsCastrol.[5] During the first practice session in theAbu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alpine's name in the rear wing of both cars was replaced by the phrase"El Plan" (Spanish for "the plan"), referencing aninternet meme created by Alonso's fans in the wake of his return to Formula One.[6][7]
The A521 proved to be a competitive car, securing 155 points during the season, allowing Alpine to finish 5th at the Constructors' Championship, picking up a victory and two podiums in the process. At theHungarian Grand Prix, Ocon achieved his first victory in Formula One and Alonso secured his first podium since the2014 Hungarian Grand Prix at theQatar Grand Prix.[8][9]
