Alosa volgensis, theVolga shad, is anextinct species ofalosid fish. It was endemic to theCaspian Sea region. It was officially listed as extinct by theInternational Union for Conservation of Nature in 2024.[1]
It was ananadromous species which ascends from the Caspian to theVolga river up to theVolgograd dam to spawn. TheTerek andUral Rivers have belonged to the natural range.
