Allison Clare Elizabeth Gardner is aBritish Labour Party politician who has been theMember of Parliament forStoke-on-Trent South since2024. She gained the seat fromJack Brereton, a member of theConservative Party.[4][5]
Gardner was educated at theUniversity of Kent (BSc), theOpen University (MSc) and theUniversity of Leeds (PGCE).[2][6][5] She completed her PhD inbioinformatics at theUniversity of Manchester in 2016 where her research supervised by Andrew Doig and Simon Hubbard characterised and predictedamyloidmutations inproteins.[3]
Gardner works with theNational Institute for Health and Care Excellence as aSenior Scientific Adviser forArtificial Intelligence.[6] Previously, she taught science andpersonal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) in secondary schools. She was employed as a lecturer atKeele University where she led thedegree apprenticeship programme indata science.[7] She has research interests in theethics of artificial intelligence,data science,algorithmic bias,women in computing andcomputing education.[1]
