TheAlliance of Democrats was a loosepolitical international which operated from 2005 to 2012.[1] While it did not publish an official manifesto, it consisted of a broad array of political parties that identified ascentre-right,centrist, andcentre-left.[2] It was founded by theUnited States Democratic Party, theEuropean Democratic Party (EDP) and theCouncil of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD).

The Alliance included members of theCentrist Democrat International (such as theChristian Democrat Party of Chile and theDemocratic Union of Catalonia) and theLiberal International (such as all members of theCouncil of Asian Liberals and Democrats), as well as former members ofSocialist International (theIndian National Congress), Israel's relatively newKadima party, and conservative parties such as theDemocratic Party of Serbia, which is also member of theInternational Democrat Union.

The Alliance was co-chaired byFrançois Bayrou,Francesco Rutelli andEllen Tauscher, while after 2008Gianni Vernetti, who was also co-president of the Italian Liberal Group, was the Alliance's coordinator.[3]
