TheAlliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) is astandards organization that develops technical and operational standards and solutions for theICT industry, headquartered inWashington, D.C. The organization isaccredited by theAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI).[1] It is the North American Organizational Partner for the3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP),[2] a member of and major U.S. contributor to theInternational Telecommunication Union (ITU),[3] as well as a member of theInter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL).[4]
ATIS has 165 member companies, including varioustelecommunications service providers, equipment manufacturers, and vendors.[5] The organization encompasses numerous industry committees and fora, which discuss, evaluate, and author guidelines concerning such topics as5G,[6] illegalrobocall mitigation,quantum computing, artificial intelligence-enabled networks,distributed ledger technology, non-terrestrial networks,IoT,cybersecurity,network reliability, technologicalinteroperability, emergency services,[7] billing,[8] theall IP transition,[9] andnetwork functions virtualization.[10]
ATIS is also home to theNext G Alliance (NGA), which is building the foundation for North American leadership in6G and beyond.[11] The NGA is specifically an initiative to advance North American wireless technology leadership over the next decade through private-sector-led efforts.[12] With a strong emphasis on technology commercialization, the work will encompass the full lifecycle of research and development, manufacturing, standardization and market readiness.[13][14]
ATIS also has a central role in the information and communication technology industry's work to combat unwanted robocalling.[15] Working under the auspices of ATIS, theSecure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) is a critical body helping the industry achieve success in mitigating this problem.[16]
