TheAlgeria national under-23 football team representsAlgeria in internationalfootball competitions including theOlympic Games. The selection is limited to players under the age of 23, except during the Olympic Games where the use of three overage players is allowed. The team is controlled by theAlgerian Football Federation.

History

Algeria first appeared in the final of the Summer Olympics held in Moscow in 1980.[1] They managed to reach the quarter finals of the tournament.

In 2015, the under-23 team finished runners-up in theAfrica Cup of Nations tournament. They lost to Nigeria 2–1 inDakar,Senegal where the tournament was hosted. Algeria missed an opportunity to level in the second half.Zinedine Ferhat had a penalty saved by Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Emmanuel in the 68th minute.[2] Algeria clinched their place in the2016 Summer Olympics men's football tournament inRio de Janeiro by beating South Africa 2–0 in the semi-final of theAfrica Cup of Nations.[3]
