Alfred HerbertAmos (9 February 1893 – 27 October 1959) was an English professionalfootballer who played as awing half inthe Football League forBrentford andMillwall. He is a member of the Millwall Hall of Fame.
Awing half, Amos began his career as an amateur with Old Kingstonians and joinedSouthern League Second Division clubBrentford in 1913.[2] He remained with Brentford during theFirst World War and was still a regular in the team when the club was admitted to the newFootball League Third Division for the1920–21 season.[2][3] By the time Amos transferred toMillwall in 1922, he had made 139 appearances and scored five goals for Brentford.[3] He remained with Millwall for seven seasons and was an ever-present in the team which finished the1927–28 season asThird Division South champions,[2] which secured promotion to theSecond Division for the first time in the club's history.[4] Amos' achievements were recognised posthumously with a place in the Millwall Hall of Fame.[5] He finished his career withnon-league clubHitchin Town and had a successful spell as the club's manager.[2][6][7][8][9][10]
Amos served in theBritish Armed Forces during theFirst World War.[11]
