Ernesto Alexis Vega Rojas (born 25 November 1997) is a Mexican professionalfootballer who plays as aforward orwinger forLiga MX clubToluca and theMexico national team.
Vega made his senior team debut on 27 February 2016 coming on as a substitute in a homeleague match againstPachuca.[2] On April 5 he scored his first professional goal for Toluca in theCopa Libertadores against Ecuadorian clubQuito, the game ended 2–1 and Toluca qualified to the tournament'sRound of 16.[3] On 16 April, Vega scored his first two goals in the league againstVeracruz in a 4–1 home victory.[4][5]
On 8 December 2018, Vega joinedGuadalajara for a reported fee of US$9 million, making his transfer one of the most expensive in the club's history.[6]
After playing six games without any goals and going three straight games without any wins, on 16 February 2019, Vega managed to score 3 goals in the 3–0 victory againsttown rivalsAtlas, his first careerhat-trick.[7]
Prior to the start of theApertura 2021, Vega was given the number 10 jersey.[8] In May 2022, Vega extended his contract until 2024, becoming the highest paid player in the club's history.[9]
On 17 January 2024, Vega's repeated disciplinary issues at Guadalajara led to his transfer to Toluca.[10][11]
On 8 March 2025, after trailing behind two goals againstNecaxa, Vega scored ahat-trick, finishing the match at 5–2.[12] Vega helped Toluca to win theClausura 2025 league title, contributing an assist and a goal viapenalty kick in thefinals againstAmérica, for an aggregate 2–0 victory.[13] At the end of theseason, he was the team's top scorer with 13 goals and 11 assists.[14] He was included in the tournament's best XI and was awarded Best Attacking Midfielder and Goal of the Year by the league.
Vega was called up byJaime Lozano to participate at the2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, scoring one goal in five appearances, where Mexico won the competition. He was awarded the Golden Ball for best player[15] and included in the tournament's Best XI.[16] He was subsequently called up to participate in the2020 Summer Olympics.[17] Vega scored Mexico's final goal in a 3–1 victory over Olympic hosts,Japan, as they won thethird-place match to win thebronze medal.[18]

Vega made hissenior national team debut on 26 March 2019, underGerardo Martino in a friendly againstParaguay, as a 78th-minute substitute forJavier Hernández.[19]
In May 2019, Vega was included in the provisional2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup roster[20] and was subsequently included in the final list.[21] In the firstgroup stage match againstCuba, he would score his first goal with the national team in a 7–0 thrashing.[22] Mexico would go on to win the tournament.[23]
In November 2022, he was included in the 26-man roster for that year'sedition of theWorld Cup.[24]
In June 2025, Vega was included in Mexico's roster for theGold Cup.[25] In thequarter-finals match againstSaudi Arabia, he would score the first goal of the match in an eventual 2–0 victory.[26]
