Alexandra Nicoleta Anghel (born 28 June 1997) is aRomanianfreestyle wrestler. She won one of the bronze medals in the72 kg event at the2022 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia.[1][2] She is a four-time medalist, including gold, in her event at theEuropean Wrestling Championships.

Career

Anghel won one of the bronze medals in the72 kg event at the2018 European Wrestling Championships held in Kaspiysk, Russia.[3][4] In 2019, she lost the bronze medal match in the72 kg event at theEuropean Wrestling Championships held in Bucharest, Romania.[5] In the same year, Anghel also competed in the72 kg event at the2019 World Wrestling Championships where she lost her first match againstNatalia Vorobieva. In therepechage she was eliminated from the competition byMasako Furuichi of Japan.[6]

In February 2022, Anghel won one of the bronze medals in the 72 kg event at theYasar Dogu Tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey.[7] In April 2022, she lost her bronze medal match in the72 kg event at theEuropean Wrestling Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.[8] A few months later, she won the bronze medal in her event at theMatteo Pellicone Ranking Series 2022 held in Rome, Italy.[9] Anghel won one of the bronze medals in the72 kg event at the2022 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia, behind American gold medal winnerAmit Elor and Kazakh silver medal winnerZhamila Bakbergenova.[1][2]

Anghel won the gold medal in the72 kg event at the2023 European Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia.[10] She defeatedBuse Tosun of Turkey in her gold medal match.[10] Anghel also competed in the68 kg event at the2023 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia where she was eliminated in her first match.[11]

Anghel won the silver medal in the72 kg event at the2024 European Wrestling Championships held in Bucharest, Romania.[12][13] In the final, she lost againstNesrin Baş of Turkey.[12][13] Anghel competed at the2024 European Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan hoping to qualify for the2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.[14] She was eliminated in her second match and she did not qualify for the Olympics.[14] Anghel also competed at the2024 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey without qualifying for the Olympics.[15] She lost her Olympic wrestle-off match againstLinda Morais of Canada.[15]
