Alex Young (born September 1, 1994) is an American athlete who competes predominantly in thehammer throw.[1]

Early life

Young grew up inNashville,Tennessee. He moved multiple times to find the best training group, working two jobs to earn enough money and persevering to live his dream as a professional athlete.[2]

Professional career

He represented the United States at the2020 Summer Olympics and finished twelfth inEugene, Oregon at the2022 World Athletics Championships.[3]

Young has represented his country competing in the2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Colombia and at the2016 NACAC U23 Championships in El Salvador. He also competed at the 2016 Olympic Trials prior to competing in the2017 World Championships in which hefinished 20th and2022 World Championships where Young placed 12th in the final.[4]

NCAA

Young competed collegiately forSoutheastern Louisiana University (SLU).[5][6] In 2016 he became the first SLU athlete in any sport to win a national championship at the Division I level when he won theNCAA weight throw national title.[4] He followed that by finishing second in the 2017 NCAAhammer throw behind Cornell'sRudy Winkler.[7]
