Alexander Taghi Tabarrok (born November 11, 1966) is aCanadian-Americaneconomist. Tabarrok is a professor atVirginia'sGeorge Mason University and Bartley J. Madden Chair in Economics at the school'sMercatus Center.[1]
WithTyler Cowen, he co-authors the economics blogMarginal Revolution.[2] Tabarrok and Cowen have also ventured intoonline education withMarginal Revolution University.[3]
From 1999 until 2013 he was director of research for theIndependent Institute, anOakland, California basedthink tank.[4]
He completed his undergraduate studies at theUniversity of Victoria in Canada and received hisPh.D. fromGeorge Mason University in 1994.[4]
He has done work ondominant assurance contracts,[5]law and economics, andhealth economics.
In 2012, journalistDavid Brooks called Tabarrok one of the most influential bloggers on the political right, writing that he is among those who "start from broadlylibertarian premises but do not apply them in a doctrinaire way."[6]
