Alberto Rios (born March 19, 2002) is an American professionalbaseballoutfielder andcatcher in theLos Angeles Angels organization. He playedcollege baseball for theStanford Cardinal, where he was aconsensusAll-America selection and was selected as thePac-12 ConferencePlayer of the Year in2023.
Rios grew up inBellflower, California and attendedSt. John Bosco High School.[1]
Rios playedcollege baseball at Stanford. He was moved from the infield to catcher prior to his freshman year.[2] Rios barely played during his first two seasons with the Cardinal, appearing in eight games and going hitless in seven at-bats.[3] He moved to the outfield before the start of his junior season and entered the season in the Cardinal's starting lineup.[4] Rios batted .384 with 18 home runs and was named thePac-12 Conference Baseball Player of the Year and a consensus first team All-American.[5]
Rios was selected by theLos Angeles Angels in the third round of the2023 Major League Baseball draft.[6] He signed with the team and received a $847,500 signing bonus.[7] Rios made his professional baseball debut on July 21 with therookie-levelArizona Complex League Angels, going 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI against theACL Diamondbacks. On July 25, he was promoted to theClass AInland Empire 66ers of theCalifornia League.[8]
Following the 2024 season, Rios playedwinter league baseball with theSydney Blue Sox of theAustralian Baseball League.[9]
