Alba María Redondo Ferrer (born 27 August 1996) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forLiga F clubReal Madrid and theSpain national team.
In January 2024, she ranked 61st on theGuardian's 2023 list ofthe 100 Best Female Footballers in the World.[2]
Redondo progressed through theyouth system at her hometown clubFundación Albacete. In 2014, 17-year-old Redondo scored twice as "El Funda" beatUD Granadilla Tenerife 2–0 to securepromotion to the top-levelPrimera División. The2018–19 Primera División season ended in disappointment for Redondo when her 15 league goals failed to stop Fundación Albacete from finishing bottom of the league and being relegated.
In June 2019 Redondotransferred toLevante, signing a two-year contract with a further one-year option.[3] In November 2019 she scored twice againstEdF Logroño but was knocked unconscious near the end of the match. Amidst farcical scenes, thephysiotherapist who ran on to treat her was thensent off by the dogmatic referee, for not asking permission to enter the pitch.[4] The following month Redondo endeared herself to the Levante supporters when she struck the only goal in a win over local rivalsValencia.[5]
Redondo won thePichichi award for being the top goalscorer in the2022-23 Liga F season.[6]
On 2 July 2024, Redondo signed forReal Madrid.[7]
Alba Redondo took part in the qualification for the2013 U17 European Championship with the SpanishU17 national team. With theU19s she reached the final of the continental tournament in both2014 and2015, but lost to theNetherlands andSweden respectively. In 2015, with three goals in five games, she was level withMarie-Charlotte Léger and was the tournament's second-best goalscorer behindStina Blackstenius. Alba Redondo took part in the2016 World Cup with theU20 national team, where she and her team were defeated in the quarterfinals byNorth Korea, who later won the tournament.[8]
Despite competing for Albacete that was frequently fighting in relegation battle, Redondo developed into a proficient goalscorer and came to the attention ofSpain national teamscouts.[9] She made her debut for the senior national team on 8 November 2018 in a friendly against Poland, and was also called up for the2019 Algarve Cup.[10][11] However, nationalcoachJorge Vilda did not include her in the 23-player final squad for the2019 World Cup.[12] Redondo was not named to the Spanish squad for theEuro 2022 either.[13]
Redondo made seven appearances at the2023 World Cup and scored three goals. She was in the starting line-up for theWorld Cup final as Spain defeatedEngland 1–0 to win the trophy for the first time.[14]
Redondo is in a relationship with Cristina Monleón, a sports and exercise scientist at theUniversity of Valencia.[15] She is not related to former Argentine and Real Madrid midfielderFernando Redondo.
