Alanna Ubach (born October 3, 1975) is an American actress. She is known for her roles as Serena McGuire inLegally Blonde (2001) andLegally Blonde 2 (2003), Isabel Villalobos inMeet the Fockers (2004), Maria inSister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993), Noreen inThe Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Jane inClockwatchers (1997), Naomi inWaiting... (2005) andStill Waiting... (2009),Margarete inBeing Us (2011),Jeanine Pirro inBombshell (2019), and the voice of Mamá Imelda inCoco (2017), as well as Jo Hernandez-Frumpkis onGirlfriends' Guide to Divorce,Suze Howard onEuphoria, Amy Hobbs onSee Dad Run, Tessa Flores onGuilty Party, Carol Atkinson onThe Flight Attendant, and Susan Bennett onTed.

She has provided voices for several characters in a number of animated television shows and films, such asLiz Allan onThe Spectacular Spider-Man, the title character onEl Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera,Lola Boa onBrandy & Mr. Whiskers, Strudel onPound Puppies, Ansi Molina onWelcome to the Wayne, Skate Lad & Rope Girl onTeamo Supremo and four characters in theOscar-winning animated filmRango (2011). She played the first female assistant/co-host, Josie, on the television showBeakman's World, for which she was nominated for aYoung Artist Award in 1992.

Early life

Ubach was born on October 3, 1975, inDowney, California,[1] the daughter of Sidna (née González) and Rodolfo Ubach. Her father was fromSan Juan, Puerto Rico, and her mother was fromSinaloa, Mexico.[2]

In 1994, she received a positive review fromThe New York Times for her role as a Jewish girl inKindertransport at the Manhattan Theatre Club.[3] During this stage, she also landed a regular spot as Josie the assistant in the TV seriesBeakman's World. Her early film roles includedAirborne (1993),Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993),Renaissance Man (1994), andThe Brady Bunch Movie (1995). She later had roles in a series of indie films:Denise Calls Up (1995), in which she played the title character;Johns (1996), playingDavid Arquette's girlfriend, andFreeway (1996) withReese Witherspoon andKiefer Sutherland, playing a Latina gang girl. She also played roles in more mainstream films likeClockwatchers (1997) and alongside Reese Witherspoon again in the twoLegally Blonde films.[4]

Career

In 2004, Ubach starred in the filmWaiting..., alongsideRyan Reynolds andAnna Faris, and landed the role of a Latina caterer inMeet The Fockers (2004). She also had recurring roles onHung (2009) andCalifornication (2013).

Ubach starred withLisa Edelstein as a regular cast member onBravo's first scripted series,Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce.[5][6] Ubach portrayed Jo, who moved to Los Angeles to reinvent herself in the guest house of her newly divorced best friend from college, Abby.[7] Ubach described the show as "fun and stylish, it's very relatable". The role of Jo was created following the exit ofJaneane Garofalo.[8]

Recent television roles includeSuze Howard onEuphoria, Tessa Flores onGuilty Party, and Carol Atkinson onThe Flight Attendant.

In 2024, Ubach starred in the lead role of Susan Bennett on the Peacock seriesTed, the television adaptation ofthe hit film.[9]

Theater

In June 2008, Ubach starred in and narrated her ongoing one-woman show,Patriotic Bitch, which ran at the Clurman Theatre inTheater Row.[10] ReviewingPatriotic Bitch,The New York Times described it as an "entertaining one-act series of character monologues" and noted that Ubach is "seriously talented".[11]

Personal life

Ubach married record producerThom Russo in 2014. Their son was born on July 25, 2017.[12][13]
