Major GeneralAlan HawleyCBE is a British doctor and academic. He was a medical officer in theBritish Army and served asDirector General of theArmy Medical Services from 2006 to 2009. He is currently Professor of Disaster Management at theUniversity of Glamorgan.[1][2]
Hawley studied at theUniversity of Birmingham having attended Wednesfield Grammar School He graduatedBachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB). He completed hispre-registration house officer appointments at theCambridge Military Hospital,Aldershot Garrison.[2]
On 3 April 1977, Hawley wascommissioned into theTerritorial and Army Volunteer Reserve of thePrince of Wales' Division,British Army as asecond lieutenant (on probation). He was given theservice number 504232.[3] He transferred to theRoyal Army Medical Corps on 4 June 1978 as a second lieutenant (on probation) (medical cadetship).[4]
