Alain Giguère (born October 24, 1958) is aCanadian politician who was elected to theHouse of Commons of Canada in the2011 election.[1] He represented the electoral district ofMarc-Aurèle-Fortin as a member of theNew Democratic Party. In the2015 election he ran inThérèse-De Blainville, but lost to LiberalRamez Ayoub.[2]

Before to being elected, Giguère was a tax lawyer. He has a bachelor's degree in political science, a bachelor's degree in legal science, and a certificate in social justice.

Before finally being elected in 2011, Giguère had run unsuccessfully in seven previous federal elections, inVerdun—Saint-Paul in 1984, inRoberval in 1993, 1997 and 2000, inLaval in 2004 and 2008, and inLaval—Les Îles in 2006, as well as provincially once for theNew Democratic Party of Quebec inSaint-Henri in 1985.[3]

In 2012, it was reported that he would give back theQueen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. All serving MPs that year were recipients.[4]
