Ala is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[3] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Ala District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]
Ala is known for the old carvings, somemedieval, of ships on the walls of the church tower. The carvings are reminiscent of the one inFide.[5]
Ala is situated in the central east part of Gotland.[6] ThemedievalAla Church is located in the socken.[7] As of 2023[update], Ala Church belongs to Östergarnparish in Romaklosterspastorat, along with the churches inÖstergarn,Gammelgarn,Kräklingbo andAnga.[8][9]
